What’s on at Tingrith

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Thinkfests on the reality and rationality of numbers start on January 15th, 2017 at 24 Hobson Road, Osmington

On Sunday 18th March, we will explore the nature of numbers in relation to both zero and infinity.  What sort of numbers are they, if they are numbers at all and hiw they relate to our ability to measure. Last month we looked at the work of Pythagoras, progenitor of mathematics, and saw how his work headed off in two directions – one to the abstract realm of mathemtics and geometry, the other to the beginnings of freemasonary and acceptance of Sacred Geometry and theHarmony of the spheres.

The Tingrith thinkfests are held at the meetinghouse, 24 Hobson Road, Osmington on the third Sunday of each month 2-5 pm. $10 donation per session covers afternoon tea   Contact Felicity 97574014 tingrith63@gmail.com

for the full programme for the rest of the year see http://meetinghouse.tingrith.com.au/thinking-together/

It is also planned to hold a monthly film show, mostly documentaries, at Tingrith in conjunction with Transition Margaret River and the Curtin University Sustainability Programmes

The series on A Sense of Place was a great success  and was also run as a weekly series for the University of the Third Age in Margaret River.  We have also held a lively winter solstice with a massive bonfire and a crowd of about 50 people attending and dancing well into the night.   On August 16th  a crowd attended Tingrith for a get together after the highly successful course on Holistic Management run by Brian Wehlburg at Fair Harvest over the past four months. This gathering took place the day following the Margaret River Food Summit on local food at SWIT.

Easter weekend magic!

David Kennett from Auria came down to Tingrith to offer workshops on dowsing, both for water, and inspiration for planting trees/ He also offered a seminar on the wonderful work he’s doing to forest arid landscapes at Auria, north of Dowerin . See auria. for details of this great project. He managed to visit several localities down here and offer advice on both water sources, and spiritual history while he was here.

We ended off the year with the launching of Elaine Clocherty’s fabulous art installation, alongside the maze. followed by  a concert party in the meetinghouse  Simon Walsh is composed music especially for the occasion, and Peter Godden played with his band too. Many stayed overnight for a few hour’s sleep after the celebrations and lively conversations. An out-of-this-world experience in many ways.

TINGRITH THINKFESTS 2016

The Tingrith thinkfests start again in 2016, at the meetinghouse, 24 Hobson Road, Osmington, on January 17th, 2-5 pm. The topic for this series is A sense of place and will cover the concept of home and belonging vs ownership, the displacement of refugees, the indigenous way of being responsible for place They are usually held on the third Sunday of each month at the same time. $10 donation per session covers afternoon tea. Discussions in the thinkfests are based on a method called community of inquiry, but there will also be games which teach the rudiments of reasoning, fallacies, ethics and conceptual clarification. In 2015 we discussed the BBC series The Power of Myth featuring Joseph Campbell.

Joan Parke, from U3A in Busselton, wants to work with Felicity to build a series of workshops on the labyrinth. Planned for early in 2016, it will involve designing and making your own take-home labyrinth. and  a large canvas one, coloring meditations, the history of the labyrinth, the sacred rituals of the labyrinth, and even making a mosaic section of the Dancing Goddess labyrinth at Tingrith. I have also had contact with Dr Erika Jacobson who is keen to run some Sacred Theatre workshops at TIngrith next year and Simon wants to teach some juggling, tightrope walking and other circus tricks..

On the long weekend of 25th September a placid group of 15 W.A. Quakers held their residential retreat at Tingrith sharing relaxation, meals, prayer groups and meditation. They were so delighted with the peaceful calm at Tingrith that they want to come back next year.

Tingrith is about to become an organic garden on a tourist Organic Garden Trail, open weekly to tourists with bookings. it will also feature on a documentary being made on local farms serving the community.

Helene Fisher’s weekend workshop Listening to the Voice of Nature, based on the deep ecology she learnt in her years at Findhorn, 18-20 September,  was cancelled because of insufficient numbers but it is hoped she will present another one in2016..

Well, it was cold, but everyone was still cheerful. Simon Dooley and Lucinda Giblett arriving for the winter solstice on a night that typified midwinter – driving rain, hail and sleet. There were  about 30 guests, and Frank’s persistence got the fire lit beautifully!

Over the Easter long weekend we were visited by 25 people seeking to communicate with extraterrestrials, led by David Yiap and Sian. Clearly successful as they will return next Easter, for more sessions with the strobe light and fabulous vegetarian meals.

We’ve been a bit slow on Tingrith events this year, renovating the studio and the lodge, and workers’ dwelling spaces, but we have farewelled Stephen, Frank, Robert, Gianci, Sascha and finally Franka and welcomed back  Kyuss, Julia, Cem and Tom. We also have staying with us for a couple of months environmental artist Elaine Cloherty and her family, who are working on an Environmental Art installation especially for Tingrith. Simon Walsh and Sheleah are moving into the magnificently renovated lodge in the second half of October with their three dingoes.

The wedding in November was a huge success with the bride’s family filling the meetinghouse and the studio with laughter and celebration. Great to hear Olivia and Hamish, the newly weds speaking together on the Rural Report on ABC 720. There is a new gate connecting Tingrith to the Garnett’s farm next door and the renovation to the studio/shed functioned really well.  Mary Rodwell held a workshop and seminar on extraterrestrial visitors.   On November 21st the meetinghouse held a wonderful party  for Transition MR, The Permaculture Club of WA, The Margaret River Environment Group, the MRGreens and all who are trying to make this lovely earth more beautiful and healthy, with Sid the Squid leading a friendly presentation of what we have achieved over the past year.  On Christmas Day there was a lunch feast for the workers Gianci, Robert and Frank with friends Karen, Boyd and Carole.

We missed out on Creative Emergence in 2015 because we were being fairly active on the Mowen Forest protests. In 2014 from 2-5 Creative Emergence  Creative Festival held Creativity workshops in the meeting house.

Emergence Creative   provides participants with the opportunity to gain an insight into the currency of creativity and its increasing value in the cultivation of business innovation in a dynamic economic environment.  http://www.emergencecreative.com     .*****************************************************************************

  1. Hi Felicity
I recently met you at your lovely Tingrith house and shared the scrumptious meal alongside my fellow Permaculture students. I really enjoyed Myles’s talk and the interesting discussions. I recall you mentioned about meetings that you have there Thinkfests etc I am keen to be involved in any similar activities that you host. Could you please put me on your emailing list? I am very keen to connect with community as now that I have completed my PDC I find myself really missing the group interaction,as a relatively new resident of this area it can be difficult to “unearth” interesting groups .
I look forward to hearing from you, thanks again for your hospitality for our PDC group it was one of the highlights of the course for many of us!

    Warm regards

    1. Sorry not to get back to you earlier, Mandy – I lost my password!! the next thinkfest is Sunday week June 15th, 2-5 pm and it will be our last session on Cloud Atlas. I do hope you can come. Check the detailed topic on the Thinking together page – But we have a lot to discuss further on karma, history and time! I will be having a wintersolstice celebration here with a big bonfire at 7 pm on June 21st, followed by a singingbowl meditation., so bring your kids, family, friends, and something to eat and drink to share. The address again 24 Hobson Road.

    2. Whee! finally managing to reply to the emails on the webpage!! Small victories… NOW to try to get a calendar connected to my computer, so everyone can see what’s on without me having to type it in separately! Small steps…..

    1. Fiona, sorry to take so long to reply. COuldn’t remember my administration password. Next thinkfest is on Feb 21st 2-5 pm on what sense of place do you have of Margaret River??? (Or your home town if from elsewhere….)

    1. I don’t know how old this is – I’ve just upgraded my satellite dish, and lost a lot of messages, got a lot of new/old ones. Pete Godden, who used to run the men’s retreats is away, in Byron Bay I think, and I’m not sure when he’ll get back. But there will be a sweat lodge on Saturday 1st October starting 5 pm I think, for the new moon, now that Tom is back. Can you let me know if you can come? I’m not organising bookings, and I think Tom is just inviting friends…..
